What is the Prep Fund?

The Prep Fund is our annual giving opportunity which supports additional programming beyond the operating expenses that are covered by tuition. The Prep Fund provides direct support to the people and programs that make Charlotte Preparatory School such an extraordinary learning environment. Through Prep funding, we can provide teaching and learning tools for our classrooms along with individual and personal instruction from our talented teachers. We intentionally create small class sizes so that each student is known for his/her strengths, interests, and needs. We stimulate intellectual curiosity by engaging our students through authentic learning and hands-on training.  Additionally, the student experience in the arts and athletics are greatly enhanced as a result of our Prep Fund. Ultimately, the more outstanding an educational experience we can create in the classroom for your child, the stronger his/her academic credentials become…and these last a lifetime!  A contribution to the Prep Fund is an investment that truly pays off!

Who contributes to the Prep Fund?

At Charlotte Prep, our Board of Trustees always kicks off the Prep Fund!  Importantly, we can count on them to lead us with 100% participation. We invite our entire community to support the Prep Fund.  Parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, faculty, staff, friends, corporations, and foundations will be asked for support. Our mission is alive daily in our classrooms as we intentionally and thoughtfully provide an exceptional education for our students in a skilled, structured, nurturing environment that fosters intellectual, expressive, physical, and ethical growth.

Participation in the Prep Fund…What is it and why is it important?

What it is: The percentage of parents who give a gift of any size to a school. All schools aim for 100 percent participation in the annual fund. (NAIS: Gifts that Give Back)

Why it’s so important: High participation is a huge vote of confidence, an important sign that virtually all parents invest in their children’s welfare and support the school's mission  This percentage can also have an impact on gifts from outside sources; most foundations consider parent participation rates before donating funds to a school. (NAIS: Gifts that Give Back)

The Prep Fund supports all aspects of a Charlotte Prep education. Independent schools aim for 100% parent participation in the annual fund, and Charlotte Prep is no different. Charlotte Prep encourages every member of the school community to make the Prep Fund a charitable giving priority as it directly supports our extraordinary learning environments. Your support ensures that we can hire and retain expert teachers, provide educational tools and state-of-the-art equipment for the classrooms, and it contributes to our Arts, Athletics, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging programs. We would love to be the leader in the Charlotte community and beyond with our high parent participation rates. Gifts of all sizes make a difference!

How does a gift to the Prep Fund differ from capital gifts?

Our Prep Fund is an annual appeal. It starts on July 1, the beginning of our fiscal year and ends on June 30th of the following year.  There may be periodic appeals made for specific needs such as new construction or facility improvements. These appeals however are typically designed for a capital campaign and can run from 36-60 months.

How much should I give to the Prep Fund?

We welcome gifts of any amount and ask that all members of our community participate to the best of their ability. Please keep Charlotte Preparatory School at the top of your philanthropic priority list.

If I pledge now, can you count my family in your 100% participation goal?

Yes. If you prefer to pledge now and pay later, we encourage you to do so!  Please let us know your intended gift amount and the date by which you plan to pay your pledge in full. All pledges must be fulfilled by June 30th to be counted in our participation numbers.

When does the Prep Fund begin and end each year?

The fiscal year for the Prep Fund begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.

There are many ways to support Charlotte Preparatory School through the Parents’ Association, the auction, etc. If I support those efforts, do I need to give to the Prep Fund as well?

Yes! The Prep Fund is our most important annual fundraising initiative as it impacts every student daily. At Charlotte Prep, as in most independent school communities, there are several opportunities to become involved and participate in supporting the school. We ask that each family support the Prep Fund yearly as it is tax-deductible; and importantly, it is the driver that enables excellence and innovation in education, here at Prep. Remember, the Prep Fund directly impacts the outstanding opportunities that are provided for your child.
