Multiculturalism

We Are a Community of Multiculturalism

Charlotte Preparatory School provides a rich learning environment for all children. Our school, its population, and its curriculum reflect cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic diversity, which in turn creates value central to our educational excellence.

  • 38 percent of our student body come from diverse cultural backgrounds, which is evident in each Charlotte Prep classroom.
  • Our Core Knowledge and Montessori curricula integrate multicultural content across all subject areas.
  • For the past 12 years, our Middle School students have enjoyed an annual student exchange program with a sister school in Ocotlan, Mexico
  • Over the past two years, Charlotte Prep has hosted cultural exchange students and teachers from China, Korea, England and Guatemala.
  • Our Heritage Groups bring together parents and students from similar cultural backgrounds.
  • Charlotte Prep solicits advice and feedback from its Multicultural Committee of parents, fostering an inclusive community for all of our students and families.

A multicultural education enables children to view information from diverse ethnic and cultural perspectives, providing them with personal and academic skills crucial to success in a global society:

  • Critical thinking
  • Empathy
  • Problem-solving
  • Appreciation of historical context
  • Understanding of societal and political norms and responsibilities

2010-2010 Student Body

“[Through] the process of multicultural education … the student becomes more than just a warehouse of facts and figures; rather a dynamic learner capable of problem-solving and decision-making, critical elements for the evolution of the student.” - Jacon Wyans, Associated Content, 2008

“Intercultural programs ... enable children to move from a largely self-centered view of the world to an understanding of their roles and responsibilities in their families, their schools, and their communities.”

- Nancy Carolyn Whiting, noted Educational Consultant and Curriculum Developer
