The Prep Campaign

Every year, The Prep Campaign supports strategic plan initiatives approved by the Board of Trustees and Head of School. Unique to Charlotte Prep, our Trustees have made a conscious commitment to not seek financial support to fund annual operating costs, such as electricity, water, internet, waste removal, etc. This gives Charlotte Prep the opportunity to solicit unrestricted financial support for facilities upgrades and enhancements that will enrich the lives of our students today and in the future.

The Prep Campaign is a core value of Charlotte Prep and is a principal component of a positive, healthy organization. By honoring the virtuous circle of relationships, our culture embraces the school's mission and strategic visions, and with shared, stated values, we are committed to building donor cultivation and loyalty.

Charlotte Preparatory School's fiscal year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 each year. Pledges are accepted throughout the year, with payments due by June 30. Gifts are credited to the fiscal year in which they are received. For more information, contact the Development Office. Charlotte Preparatory School is a 501© (3) organization. All gifts to the school are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

Charlotte Prep donors are discovering the ease and added benefits of giving gifts of appreciated securities. Often, giving a gift of securities will create tax savings for the donor. Gifts of appreciated securities held longer than one year are exempt from capital gains taxes and entitle the donor to a tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities at the time of transfer.

A wire transfer is the easiest way to make a gift of securities.

Charlotte Prep is happy to receive gifts in memory or in honor of alumni, students, parents, and other friends of the School. When these gifts are received, the Development Office notifies all parties and gift recognition is identified in our Annual Report.

Charlotte Prep is happy to work with you on planned gifts. These are sometimes referred to as "stop-and-think" gifts because they require some planning and, often, help from your professional advisors. Unlike cash donations, they are typically made from assets in your estate rather than disposable income, and come to fruition upon your death. The simplest planned gift is a Bequest through your will.
Fill out the Bequest Notification Form or the Beneficiary form and return it to Charlotte Prep, or contact our Development Office. Please be sure to discuss any gifts with you tax advisor.

Charlotte Prep is happy to work with you on gifts of Real Estate, which may be contributed outright or may be used to establish a life income gift for Charlotte Prep’s ultimate benefit. Such gifts must be reviewed and approved by Charlotte Prep’s Gift Acceptance Committee in accordance with our Gift Acceptance Policy. This policy serves to protect Charlotte Prep’s tax-exempt status, assure that gifts are consistent with the mission of the School, and guarantee that all donors are treated ethically and equitably. For more information, please contact our Development Office.

A gift of capital assets (art objects, rare books, equipment, musical instruments, antiques, etc.) may be given to Charlotte Prep for its educational purposes or for sale, or may be sold by the donor for the immediate benefit of the School. All Gift-in-Kind items are to be presented to our director of development for approval through the Gift Acceptance committee in accordance with our Gift Acceptance Policy.

The Art of Play

Last year, Charlotte Prep families were inspired to “play it forward” to raise funds to begin the transformation of our Lower School and Middle School playground. The impact of their generosity is plain to see in the happy faces of our students as they play in their new outdoor space.

This year’s Prep Campaign will enable our community to finish the work of renovating the playground and more. Our focus on “The Art of Play” will also make possible needed improvements to elements of our fine arts infrastructure.
