New Family Resources


We are excited to welcome your family to our community! This page is designed to answer questions you may have about starting at Charlotte Prep. Visit My Prep for school announcements, check our Back to Prep page for important back-to-school information, and download the 2017-2018 academic calendar as you look ahead to next school year. You can also download summer reading and math assignments in the Announcements section of My Prep. Please email the Admissions Office or call 704-366-5994 ext. 1127 if you need more information.

School Information

Montessori Early School Orientation and Phase-In Period for New Families: Begins Saturday, August 19, at the Back to School Bash, and continues Tuesday, August 22. Children will come in for short portions of the day to ease them into their Montessori classrooms.

  • 8:30-10:00 a.m.: New Students (Classrooms)
  • 10:00-10:30 a.m.: Extended Day Students Optional Drop-in (Extended Day Cottage)

Lower School and Middle School Orientation for New Families: Tuesday, August 22

Lower School
  • 9:00-10:00 a.m.: New Families
  • 9:30-10:30 a.m.: All Families
Middle School
  • 1:30 p.m.: New Families (Mezzanine)
  • 2:00-3:00 p.m.: All Families (Gymnasium)

First Day of School is Wednesday, August 23.

Students in Early School and grades K-3 will receive complimentary Charlotte Prep Packs on the first day of school (there is no need to add a backpack to your back-to-school shopping list!).

Students in grades 4-8 must bring in their own backpacks (rolling or traditional).

You may drop your children off as early as 7:30 a.m. but for Early School and Lower School, you will need to walk them to their Extended Day locations at this time. Before-school care is complimentary for all families. If you are enrolled in our Extended Day Program, you must pick your children up by 6:00 p.m.
Carpool for all divisions will end at 3:45 p.m. If you are running late, please call the school to notify staff. Your children will be safe and walked to the Extended Care room for their age group. You can pick them up upon your arrival. You may incur an hourly charge for this if you are not enrolled in the Extended Day Program. For more details, read our Carpool Guide.
Early School
  • Drop-off by 8:30 a.m.
  • Pick up for Primary: 12:00 p.m.
  • Pick up for TK: 2:30 p.m.
  • Pick up for K: 3:10 p.m.
Lower School
  • Drop off by 8:15 a.m.
  • Pick up: 3:10 p.m.
Middle School
  • Drop off before 8;00 a.m.
  • Pick up: 3:30 p.m.

Students must wear attire that is neat and comfortable to provide all students with an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. For more information about our Dress Code and Code of Conduct, please read our division-specific student handbooks, which will be available prior to the start of the school year.

Charlotte Prep partners with Lands' End as our year-round school wear provider. Required wear items are noted by division below; suggested item numbers are provided for your convenience.

Early School
  • Navy polo shirt or dress for Prep Pride Fridays and off-campus trips
Lower School & Middle School
  • White polo shirt with logo for Prep Pride Fridays, chorus, and off-campus trips

Physical Education

  • Lower School: Any Charlotte Prep athletics t-shirt. If ordering from Lands' End: Short Sleeve Performance V-neck Tee - Item #442601 or Short Sleeve Performance Tee - Item #315442
  • Lower School: Any athletics shorts in navy, gray, white, or black. If ordering from Lands' End: Piped Athletic Shorts - Item #402954 or Mesh Shorts - Item #403024
  • Middle School: Order PE uniforms online through Sunday, August 20 at the Tigers PE Apparel Store
Chorus and Fine Arts Performers
  • White shirt
  • Black dress pants or slacks with black belt (no jeans, capris, leggings, or skinny pants), black socks, and shoes (no sneakers, sandals, open-toe shoes, boots, or high heels)
  • OR black skirt with black stockings and black shoes (no sneakers, sandals, open toe shoes, boots, or high heels)

Medical forms and policies are located on our Health & Wellness page; please review all documents. If you have questions, please email Nurse Kelly Long. Forms MUST be submitted by Saturday, September 23 for the 2017-2018 school year.

Lunch will be available for purchase in our Dining Hall. Charlotte Prep is proud to partner with FLIK Independent School Dining for our food service. All students are automatically signed up for the option to purchase local and sustainable meal items created on campus.

Students in grades 4-8 are required to bring in their own device. For details, please review our Bring Your Own Device guidelines.

Check your email for the following communications:

  • Back-to-School email: Monday, July 31
  • The Monday Memo: Every Monday, from August 21, 2017, to June 4, 2018 (except Holiday Break and Spring Break)
  • Regular teacher communications and emails begin in August after the school year begins.
FACTS is Charlotte Prep's tuition payment management and processing system.
