Middle School
A Message from Annmarie Torres, Head of Middle School
Welcome to Middle School! At Charlotte Preparatory School, our Middle School students receive careful, individual attention in our small, nurturing environment, in part because we don’t have high school students on campus. Our Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade model allows Middle School students to be campus leaders and also lets our teachers focus their efforts on preparing our students for the next level. Our students are free from distractions of high school issues and social pressures, and are able to concentrate on our engaging curriculum.
This model allows the children to remain children as long as possible, but it also grooms young leaders. With the myriad of leadership opportunities available to them, our Middle School students are the campus heroes — truly big fish in a small pond.
Amazing things are happening in our Middle School every day. In addition to Charlotte Prep’s challenging curriculum (learn more our student’s outstanding academic accomplishments), every Fifth through Eighth Grader participates in Advisory, a program designed to focus on the Middle School student’s academic and social needs. Advisory creates a supportive and beneficial relationship between each student and a faculty advisor. This connection is accomplished through the formation of a trusting relationship with an adult contact; a forum for facilitating communication between student, faculty, family, and community; and most importantly, personalizing each student’s experience at Charlotte Preparatory School. Parents are intimately involved in the education of their children every step of the way.
During the school day, our students have the opportunity to pursue individual interests by participation in clubs led by faculty members. Club offerings include options like Science Olympiad; Motivational Speaking; Book Club; and Tiger TV, where students write, produce and film a weekly news broadcast. After school, more than 80 percent of our Middle School students participate in our Interscholastic Athletics program. And service learning is an integral part of the Middle School experience. Our students develop self-confidence and a strong understanding of who they are.
I invite you to visit the Middle School to learn more about our outstanding program, and to see our impressive students and faculty in action.
Sincerely,
Annmarie Torres
Head of School

High School Placement
Applicants to Charlotte Preparatory School often wonder about their child’s prospects and transition into high school.
Once our students have received the full benefits of a pre-K–8th grade program, they are well prepared to succeed academically and socially in the high school of their choosing. Each year, our graduates are actively recruited by the area’s – and even the region’s – top high schools. The reputation of a Charlotte Prep graduate is that of a well prepared leader who stands out both inside and outside the classroom. And with good reason — our students go on to become National Merit Scholars, valedictorians and salutorians, athletic team captains, college scholarship winners, and more.
Each fall, Charlotte Prep hosts a high school fair. Representatives from area independent schools, regional boarding schools and others converge on campus to meet our students and parents, and answer their questions. As part of the eighth grade leadership curriculum, our students practice interview skills like friendly eye contact, shaking hands firmly, asking engaging questions, discussing their interests and accomplishments, and feeling comfortable in an interview situation. Our administrative team collects teacher references, school transcripts and other application materials, and hand-delivers the information to each independent school in our area. Over many years our administrators have developed relationships with these high schools, and they make personal follow-up calls and meet with the admissions representatives at each school to talk about the strengths of each one of our graduating students. Without fail, each year Charlotte Prep students are among the most sought-after high school applicants. Since the Middle School’s inception in 1999, 99 percent of our graduates have received acceptances to one of their top choice high schools.
