Admissions Process & Forms

The admissions process is designed to identify a variety of students who demonstrate motivation and the ability to excel. In reviewing applications, the Admissions Committee considers:

  • Academic performance

  • Standardized skills assessment

  • Teacher recommendations

  • Individual character and talents

How to Apply to Charlotte Prep

Step 1: Application

A completed Application for Admission is submitted online (including the $90 non-refundable application fee).

Step 2: Additional Forms

Step 3: Interview/Academic Assessment

  • Pre-Primary, Primary and Transitional Kindergarten (TK): A brief Meet and Greet visit is scheduled for the child during the class work cycle. During this time the teacher will work one-on-one with the applicant and present some lessons using the Montessori materials. Visits usually last about 40 minutes.

  • Kindergarten and 1st Grade: Applicants will be given the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV) as part of the Charlotte Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) applicant screening process. Please refer to the 2018-2019 CAIS brochure for specific details about this process.

  • Grades 2-4: Applicants will be given the Woodcock Johnson Cognitive Abilities Test (WJC) as part of the Charlotte Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) applicant screening process. Please refer to the 2018-2019 CAIS brochure for specific details about this process.

  • Grades 5-8: Applicants take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE), which consists of verbal and quantitative ability tests, mathematics and reading comprehension achievement tests, and a written essay. The ISEE is given in a group setting (register online). It can be administered on an individual basis by contacting the Admissions Office.

Step 4: Classroom Visit

  • The classroom visit is subject to the results of the academic assessment, thereby preventing an unnecessary or unexcused absence from the applicant's current school.

Step 5: Invitation of Acceptance

  • Charlotte Prep will email the results of the admissions process. Details about how to enroll online will be provided at that time.
