Welcome to Charlotte Prep’s Lower School where we foster lifelong learning and provides an exemplary educational experience founded on academic excellence, positive character, and leadership development in a diverse, inclusive community.
It is an honor to be a part of a community that strives to be excellent, collaborates, and appreciates a global society and diverse classrooms - all of which are critical for a well-rounded education. Charlotte Prep is a vibrant, welcoming community where respect, integrity, perseverance, and courage are woven into the curriculum and daily routines.
Our small class size allows teachers to closely monitor students’ development and challenge them with age- and ability-appropriate activities. Small class sizes and a nurturing environment allows the students to partner with buddy grade levels and to cultivate opportunities for friendship and leadership. Our overarching goal is guiding children in the Lower School as they make a positive and productive transition to the Middle School years fully equipped with confidence, a strong academic foundation, and a curiosity for learning.
The Lower School's rigorous curriculum helps to lay a solid foundation of skills which the students build upon each year, and where mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies are all emphasized. In Kindergarten through 2nd Grade, language arts skills focus on the development of reading comprehension, fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and writing. In 3rd and 4th Grade, students utilize their dexterity in critical thinking and reasoning to further develop their language arts skills through curriculum materials, novel studies, and research projects.
Kindergarten through 4th Grade students have music, art, drama, and computer once a week and physical education and Spanish twice a week. 3rd and 4th Grade students also learn recorder as part of their music class.
Charlotte Prep is proud to integrate 21st century skills and curriculum, especially STEM education and the alignment with the various project-based learning experiences. STEM education is the integration of science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics into other disciplinary areas, like social studies and literacy. Through STEM education, students gain engaging, hands-on experiences that will help to prepare them for their future careers. As our technology-driven world evolves, we are giving our students the skills to collaborate, problem-solve, and utilize tools effectively and creatively through STEM education.
I look forward to partnering with you and your family, and I happily invite you to visit Charlotte Prep where the curiosity for learning is palpable the minute you walk through the front door!
