Fine Arts
At Charlotte Prep, we believe there is an artist in every child. Our integrated, multidisciplinary approach to learning allows our students to experience many forms of artistic expression—and to excel at what fits them best!
Performing Arts instruction begins in the Early School with weekly music classes focusing on creative movement and experiential learning. Students build musical skills in kindergarten through second grade, with pre-music reading concepts emphasized. Music instruction increases to twice weekly for third through eighth graders, and students are introduced to both instrument and vocal study through recorder classes (3rd and 4th grades), band classes (5th-8th grades), and chorus (3rd-8th grades).
Drama opportunities are available at every grade level. In Middle School, seventh and eighth Grade students may elect to take Music Theatre and Design, an advanced class that culminates with a student-managed performance. Each year, our third through sixth grade students perform at least one production. Our youngest Lower School students (K-2) shine on stage annually in age-appropriate, costumed productions that delight the entire audience.
The Visual Arts program includes both fine and applied arts in all media (drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture/ceramics, fiber) with an emphasis on arts integration into each grade level's core content areas. Lower School children receive instruction once per week, and Middle School students participate twice per week. Early School art instruction is woven into the classroom curriculum.

Performance and Exhibition Opportunities
In addition to the drama productions, Charlotte Prep hosts two concerts per year, as well as many informal recitals. Student artwork is displayed year-round both on campus and off. Many students have exhibited in local and regional art shows. Our Assembly Program provides a forum for classrooms to integrate the character education, leadership, and performing arts programs. In addition to student performances, the Assembly Program also brings in musicians, actors, dancers, and cultural presentations for the entire student body.
